I thought Bear Creek shut down.
The name isn't really the thing, it's the fruit.
yeah, the bush was taller and thinner as it went along, and I should have thinned it out, but just didn't have the heart.
Maybe I should just concentrate on getting good blueberries... there is a large blueberry nursery not too far from here-- Finch's--
I think they do a lot of business wholesale?
they told me they had some over size bushes that they would sell, if we came in a pickup.
just have to get the right kinds--
do you know I tried to contact all the ag agencies here, to ask about what varieties were most popular in U-Pick places.. and none of them responded to me, not a one.

I have had a Jennybelle serviceberry or Juneberry for a long time and it is very productive for me. However, the Timm and Success from Bear Creek is even more productive since they are very low thin bushes.  Jennybelle is a taller thinner bush with berries more spread out on the stems.

Only place I've ever seen "Jennybelle" juneberry(A.obovata) offered is Mike McConkey's Edible Landscaping in Afton, VA.  Got mine there - but it's not productive here.

We've grown rabbiteye for 31 years now, still picking from the same bushes.  They are not so fussy about soil acidity and water (although they do need both).  They bloomm a little later and not so subject to frosts and with two varieties, Climax and Tifblue, we pick from the end of June till the first week of Sept.  Very productive.  3-4 tons from 500+ plants.  We love them for pick our own, freezing, winemaking, and fresh sales.  We installed irrigation to avoid bursting fruit which occurs if there is a dry spell and then heavy rain.   Hector Black, zone 6 middle tn

Anyone care to talk about blueberries? northern VS southern rabbit-eye?

I have an area that is favorable for blueberries, I might can get away with planting the northern types-- but I know the rabbit-eyes are more acclimated.

My husband thinks they are terribly hard and sour.

Any comments?

ALSO--

I need to find the Jennybelle juneberry again, which is my favorite berry of all.

I can't find it in catalogs.

thanks

Amy
