We sell two different Viburnum trilobum.  Most years we sell 'Wentworth' and some years we sell 'Phillips'.  Phillips was selected by Elwin Meader and is propagated for us by his son John, one of our long-time growers.  We offer it only from time to time when John has a decent supply of plants.  Wentworth is more readily available in the trade.  It is primarily sold as an ornamental but was selected originally for its superior fruit qualities.

Due the the huge space requirements of all the plants we offer, we do not have mature specimens of either plant on our farm so I can not vouch for the differences except by what others growers have told me over the years.  Two years ago  however, we began a new trial garden of 'edible landscape' 'permaculture' type plants here in Palermo.  Included in the trial are the Highbush Cranberries.  They are doing well and we intend to experiment with the fruit asap.  I will certainly be reporting what I learn in future catalogs.

Even though Phillips is not in the 2011 catalog, we can probably scrape up a few plants as special orders.  If that interests anyone, feel free to contact me off-group.
Best regards to all,
John Bunker

Hi all

Fedco Trees sells a highbush cranbury which it purports lack the unpleasnt overtones of the run of the mill clones.  I have two in pots that haven't fruited yet so I can't verify this.  I don't have this year's catalogue on hand to see if they're offered (They don't have them every year).  Maby John Bunker will comment on this.
