A friend here in central Virginia had 16 apple varieties, and Spartan was our
surprise favorite of the group. It did drop fast when ripe though.

I have my first good Yates treefull this year, and it's the only variety I
haven't
picked so far in this early-ripening year. They're small, but very
resistant to the
rots which spoil so many of my apples.
