I do not know if these were botanically speaking white mulberries.  They were white by appearance.  They grew 4 blocks away from where I lived growing up in Louisville KY.  They were nice plump berries but tasted insipid.  One year we collected them and dried them.  The turned caramel brown and developed a shiny sugar coating.  Dried they were very pleasant.

Today I went shopping at The Spanish Table in Berkeley. I've never been to Spain so I'm not really familiar with the foodways there. One thing that surprised me was that you could buy dried Turkish mulberries there. They appear to be Morus alba because they are very light even when dried. I'm not a big fan of Morus alba (I prefer Morus nigra) but drying concentrates the flavor. They were pleasant and lightly sweet, and a bit chewy.
