Dolgo makes excellent, ruby-color jelly and is also quite disease resistant.  It gets my vote for top jelly crab. – Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn. (USDA Hardiness Zone 4b)

Subject: [NAFEX] crab apples

I want to make crab apple jelly this year and was wondering if using apples picked from municipal plantings would work?  Most of the apples are small _1-1/2 inch diameter.

I'd like to plant a crab apple tree for jelly also...any suggestions of varieties that are particularly disease resistant and good for clay soils in SE Ohio (zone 6)

Thanks!
