sorry I am getting back to you late on this, but you have a wonderful idea.  In fact, that same day I meet with a lady that does community gardening with refugees from Burundi for a different issue.  It may not work well with the fruit trees idea for they are tropical, but I may have an entry to the broader refugee community.

If anyone else does this kind of work, I would love to hear from you.

Volunteer at your local refugee resettlement organization!  They always need help, and at least in my area a lot of recent refugees come from agricultural backgrounds and have a wealth of knowledge to share.

This is a wonderful article and it speaks to the idea I wrote about in Pomona about a year ago in that I wish we (as NAFEX) could find a way of connecting with people in ethnic communities that have these type of interest. I really think there is great knowledge  that could be shared on both sides.

Unllike many americans - as the article illudes too,  are really interested in the cultivation of some of these fruits and I dont think these communities will just find us and join us. How do we make ourselves known??

In Washington, mulberry trees offer many immigrants a taste of home    (Washington Post)     Mulberry trees are popular with the Washington area's immigrant population, although the fruit has never really caught on in the United States. ...
