I have had the most efficient results by using a garbage disposal to grind apples w/o any liquid to aid grinding; but one needs a big motor.  With a medium motor it has to be fed slowly so as not to overheat.  But dispoal grinding produces more cider/bushell and with less pressure needed.  I have used 2  classic hand grinders that produce chunkier pomace that gives less juice at much higher pressures than with the fliud pomace of the garbage grinder.

Can anyone recommend a sturdy manual cider mill? I'm considering one offered through Lehman's. I'm not into commercial production but will be processing several bushels per year, so I'll need something more durable than a household or kitchen model. The last one I had (don't remember the brand) cracked from the pressure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
