Lee pretty much said everything I wanted to and better. Of course I'd put in a little edge. All this marketing of products that are really unnecessary just gets on my nerves. Use what's around and only what is needed. If you are trying to garden on a strip mine it might be time to innoculate.
Lon's article suggested that buying the precise innoculant would create an advantage in normal garden situations. My take is with Lee- the data I've seen doesn't support the claims of these marketeers of innoculum. Maybe Lon's seen some research that I haven't, which wouldn't surprise me, but if so I hope he'll direct us to it.
