The variety "Sunny" has larger berries.  The ripe flavor is mildly sweet tart with a taste that reminds me of a cross between passion fruit and OJ. It is definitely edible 'out of hand' to me.

What do you do with sea buckthorn berries?  If you eat them, what do
they taste like?  I read they are astringent and oily.  I have seen
the berries at florist shops but never considered eating them.  I'm
wondering if selected strains are better to eat.
