My experience is similar to Lon's - though I did have
two seedling beach plums, from Ken Asmus' OIKOS Tree
Crops. They bloomed weeks after all the other
stonefruits in my orchard. One bush set good crops
annually, the other never set a plum in its entire
life. No suckering, no curculio damage, little if
any brown rot. But, very little pulp surrounding the
pit, either. Very tart, and they held on bush without
dropping - birds would eat away the flesh, and
there'd be a naked pit hanging onto the branch 'til
winter.
