The Seed savers exchange fruit berry and nut inventory is useful, but has
it's limitations. It is a compilation of catalogue descriptions and thus
subject to the limitation that the original listings are written by people
who are trying to sell things. Many nurseries will tell you both pros and
cons that they know of and in their experience, but not every one does that
and often, as do all of us, the nurseries know more about performance in
their area than elsewhere. If you want an academics perspective try the
Brooks and Olmo Register of Fruit and Nut Varieties, or for peaches Handbook
of Peach and Nectarine Varieties by the USDA. For more Nafex type info
Cornucopia II and The Brooklyn Botanic Garden's The Best Apples to buy and
Grow And Lee Reich's Book on unusual fruit.
