- Subject: [NAFEX] Lead shot in soil
- Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2008 08:19:08 -0500 (GMT-05:00)
The solubility of elemental lead at ambient soil pH values (pH generally in
the range of 4.8 to 8.0 for agicultural soils in temperate regions) is pretty
low; for most of us there is no need to worry about contamination of food
from lead shot in the soil. Go ahead and use your shotguns.
The exception to this is flooded soils (e.g., in rice paddies), where the eH
(electronegative potential) can be very low; solubility of heavy metals can
increase even at pH values near neutral in conditions of low eH.
