I am in western PA, typically zone 5 winters, although milder in recent years.  I have not seen yacon in stores yet, but dried, sliced is sometimes available on line and I have seen the syrup in health food stores.

Naomi, yacon will likely NOT survive in the ground overwinter in zone 6.  I've not tried it, but understand that freezing kills them.

My plants came from Nichols as well some years ago.  I overwinter plants as described in my previous email.  Seeds of Change used to sell them as well, if memory serves me.

I have also heard that there is only one variety of yacon available in US, but multiple vars in South America.

Naomi, John, and anyone else who has grown yacon,

What areas of the country are you growing yacon in?
And are there any major grovery store chains that carry it?
Does it go by other names?

Michele in SW Ohio, zone 6a
