The alcohol is as effective as bleach and is a better alternative to bleach for tools as you state.

I have switched from using bleach to alcohol to sterilize clippers between
cuts in removing fire blight. The alcohol (straight from the bottle) is
much less corrosive on the tools. Does anyone know if it is just as
effective as bleach?
