My fruit fridge is still full of apples so I stored some scion wood in an air-tight metal container burried shallow in the ground and covered with leaves. I'v always wondered if scion wood needs a supply of oxygen to remain vital as wood stored for long in a ziplock seems to be less reliable for me than short stored wood although I keep both moist.
