A number of studies with black raspberries have also been shown to have beneficial effects.  I'll have to dig through my files to see if I can come up with specific references and modes of action but I seem to remember there being a number of beneficial angles.  I also seem to remember a study which looked at red raspberry and found beneficial effects.  Even though it is somewhat lower in anthocyanins, it is higher in some other phytochemicals.  Anthocyanins are not the only suspected cause for these results.  I think a variety of flavanoids from small fruits have been linked to benefits in those that are diabetic or prediabetic.

Blueberries have been shown to help lower
fasting glucose levels. Very "diabetic friendly."
This is true of most berries rich in anthyocyanins (think black currants / black and red mulberry).
A tea made from the blueberry leaves is particularly useful, and your
group would be able to make good use of not only the fruits but other
parts of the plant.

Anti-diabetic properties of the Canadian lowbush blueberry Vaccinium angustifolium Ait.
