Stephen,

    For we NAFEXers to guess what your problem might be, it would help to know how large the barren spots are.  I have seen barren spots on farmland where the farmer accidentally broke bags of fertilizer and didn't clean it all up.  A good experiment for you would be to mix some of the bad soil with good soil with several dilutions, put it in pots and see how well anything grows.
