I imagine that most of us are interested in only what grows in our own climate.  Plants for a Future maintainers a comprehensive database of 7,000 edible and medicinal plants for temperate regions- they are based in the UK.  http://www.pfaf.org/

Beyond that, I doubt that anyone knows for certain; I've tried many of the wild plants listed in the Plants for  a Future database, and many of them are unpalatable and only useful in an emergency.  Hunter- gatherer people know about plants that they can eat in a famine that they would never touch given another option.

Dear all,

I once again request all the LEARNED nafexers to tell me the total number of edible fruits (preferably with some supporting reference).  My previous enquiry did not get enough response.

So please do write me back this time.
