It gets bashed because someone dares to say something
good about it. I'm not a new person on this list nor
at Pomona. Red Delicious inpsires strong emotions
because it's a horrible apple and it turned off
thousands of people to eating apples at all. I am also
one of those people that could only find red delicious
apples through my teens and just decided I didn't like
red apples. It caused serious damage to the apple
industry. Not only is it a horrible apple but it is
the perfect example of an unfortunate trend in the US
to sell fruit based on appearance rather than flavor.
That's why we now get these large beautiful
strawberries that have no flavor and no sweetness,
just like a red delicious apple. So now I generally
don't buy strawberries anymore. I know kids that have
never had a good strawberry and wonder why people eat
them.
