Hi John and all,
Autumn olive fruits are extremely high in Lycopene.  If you can get your hands on HortScience or the Journal of the American Pomological Society, there have been several articles since 2001 detailing the nutritional content and other information on the fruit.  You can also go to the USDA/ARS website for the abstracts of these studies.

On a sweet note, Dr. Joseph Scheerens and fellow researchers up at Ohio State did a taste test a few years ago of Autumn Olive Ice cream syrup.  They served it and other flavors of syrup over vanilla ice cream to master gardeners, who evaluated it without knowing the fruit's identity.  It had a nice sweet-tart balance, and was well received.   I might be able to get the recipe if you're interested; please contact me off-list.

I have heard of jam made from Autumn Olive; here is a recipe.http://wearemadeofdreamsandbones.blogspot.com/2006/09/autumn-olive-jam-saga.html  and a recipe for Autumn Olive wine!  http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/request115.asp.  I haven't tried them.

Has anyone cooked with these?  THe fruits are pretty small........are they worth the trouble?
