Hello Lon
Since Hugh Ermen left East Malling, his work on own roots stopped.  It has however been taken up by Phil Cobertt of Nottingham nursery- Cool Temperate.  Details can be found at http://www.cooltemperate.co.uk/own_root.shtml

If you get to Helmsely Walled Garden there are a few other places worth visiting whilst in the neighbourhood.  Ampleforth Abbey - a monastry that has a traditional orchard with numerous old cultivars.  If grapes are your thing, then over at Westo, near Malton, Stuart Edwards has planted over 10 acres on vines.  Stuart provided many of the vines at Helmsely.

Regards
