- Subject: [NAFEX] Half primocane blackberry
- Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2007 07:49:41 -0500
A couple of years ago Heron Breen (a NAFEXer who we don't hear from lately) sent me several wild(?) selections of Main blackberry to trial here in zone 3 Minnesota. I planted some in full sun and some in mostly shade. The variety named "Thibodeau", those growing in mostly shade, are doing something I've not ever seen in any bramble. It has green fruit ready to ripen and primocanes that are 5' to 6' high and now some of the primocanes are blooming and some are not. I know there are those (who haven't seen it) who will insist they are not really primocanes but if they were to dig down below the soil line to where these primocanes originated; definitely primocanes.
