Ask your local Ag Office or library for the county Soil Survey. This can
tell you a
lot about what the soil can & cannot do, erosion risk, seep (seasonal springs)
problems, etc.
The other thing to think about is how will you access the trees for
maintenance &
harvest? All on-foot, or vehicle-- what kind of vehicle? If you build a
terrace
wide enough to include a vehicle lane, can you stabilize the bare soil
enough?
