Back in the 1980's there was a small nursery (Gaybird?) around Wawanesa,
Manitoba in I think Agriculture Canada zone 3b, which sold an edible
mulberry, probably M. alba. I have no idea how the quality compared to
run-of-the-mill seedling M. alba. The proprietor was quite elderly at
that time.
