I love the black tomatoes. Unique flavor. Very savory, slight saltiness
and some say smoky. They are also quite beautiful. Three years ago I had a
cross in the garden between Two of my favorites. Cherokee Purple and Amish
Paste. Five distinctive types have come from this cross. The colors range
from Blacks to light pinks. Round to long and pointy. All share very
tender, thin skin, High meat to seed ration and very juicy. I am still
growing out to stabilize.
Of the puple/ blacks I grow, Cherokee Purple is my favorite. Black Krim has
also done well for me. I have to agree with Donna. Cherokee especially is
prone to sun scald. Mostly due to the lack of foliage. Seems naturaly lower
on foliage cover plus sometimes the condition is agrivated by defoiliating
leaf diseases.
