I have quite a number of clove and golden currants that I am testing. For
me, 'Crandall' does reasonably well, but gets defoliated by mid to late
summer. It sets fruit without cross-pollination, but when I saved some
pollen from an earlier blooming clove currant of unknown origin, and used it
on the 'Crandall' flowers, the fruits were 2-4 times larger. My 'Crandall'
clone came from Raintree Nursery.

Some of the material I have is from arid areas out west, and as expected,
these are subject to foliar problems in our humid climate. However, they are
very tough and very drought tolerant. Still waiting on fruit. I also have a
couple of golden currants from Oikos Tree Farm. They are seedlings from
'Kerr' or Vineland' selections "noted for their prolific large fruits". They
have not fruited for me yet, but these have been the cleanest, healthiest
Ribes I have. Anyone know anything about the origin of 'Kerr' and
'Vineland'?
