Luther Burbank bred sweet cherries and I'm pretty sure one of them was named Oxheart. Since Burbank was in Santa Rosa, California it's easily possible your mother could have encountered his varieties in Woodland, California since they aren't that far apart.

Hi,
I have been on this list a while but lurking, trying to absorb a small
part of all of the knowledge you people have to share. My mother is in
her 80's and talks about an Oxheart cherry that they ate when she was a
little girl. I have searched the internet and can find no references.
Does anyone know if the is the description of the fruit, or an actual
variety, or where I might find more information?
Thanks,
