Hello,
Sounds like a wound is inflicted on the tree, spurring reproduction activities. This works with many plants.
A good bruise, produced by a sharp blow to the base of the trunk, with a rubber/leather mallet, should have the same result.
If you bruise without breaking the bark, you do not allow potential diseasse to enter tree.
Just my thoughts.
Later,
Tom

Is the bark cut off completely around the trunk ?

nutrition, which produces more flowers and, ultimately, more jujubes. >>
Should we be cutting the bark on our hybrid plum trees to stimulate them
carry more fruit? In a very early Pomona [e.g. 1971] a professor wasquoted
saying poor bearing in plums was due to inadequate nitrogen in the flowerstem,
maybe cutting the bar would ensure more nutrition in the upper part.Sounds
like its worth a try. Is that when to do it, June?sites.
