You are quite right, purslane requires heat to germinate. I have some
growing as weed in my garden (it looks just like the variety that comes in
seed packages) and it is coming up now (here perennial poppies are finishing
and lilies have not bloom yet). If you let some purslane go to seed, it will
reseed itself and become one of your favorite weed.
