I have some questions that hopefully those who have grown Shipova can answer. Will this dwarf version fruit earlier?
Mine is has been in the ground for 3 years & hasn't flowered yet. But then last year was the first year that it put on a bit of noticeable growth.
Also, is fireblight a problem?
Haven't had a problem yet, tho I have Flemish Beauty nearby that I've been removing little bits of fireblight affected wood so we'll see if it crosses over.
I have three other pears in my orchard. Two are Asians and the other is Le Nain Vert, a 15th century miniature. None of them seem have fireblight problems. There are Mountain ash trees in the neighborhood (mine was hit by lightning, split in two and was removed last June). So, I think I have pollination covered.
Yikes, I was under the impression that these were self-fruitful. No other mountain ash anywhere tho I have a bunch of other pear varieties in the area.
