Even here in Zone 4/5, Ribes cuttings can be taken in the fall. The stems are cold hardy aboveground so should be hardy when in the ground, where it is warmer. Set foot long cuttings in well drained soil deep enough so that only their top bud is exposed. The main threat to these cuttings is that of being heaved out of the soil as it freezes and thaws in the coming months. The way around this is to cover them with some fluffy organic mulch such as leaves or straw. Pull the mulch aside in spring.

Hi Rondi. Do you mean just cuttings or rooted cuttings (ie. small bushes)? I think it would be risky to place unrooted cuttings in the fall and expect them to survive until spring and then produce roots. However, you could plant small bushes, water them well, perhaps apply some mulch and expect reasonable survival over the winter.

I've read somewhere that currant cutting can be planted here in the
fall and so...
I am looking for cuttings of red, white and especially black currants.
I'll cover shipping and a fee for the cuttings or can trade persimmon
seeds or grape cuttings of the few varieties I have.
Thanks,
Rondi
