Here the apples are always self-thinning! I'd wonder what was WRONG if I didn't see premature drop! And October/late apples have trouble ripening-- either the poor soil, or because I've planted trees mostly in woods openings/less than maximum sun exposure, or both.

My trees have been dropping apples since fruit-set, something they've never done before. Consequently, I haven't had to thin them. I haven't had any ripe apples drop as none are ripe. My July ripening apples are still green and my October apples are getting their red blush. All too weird.
