Ashmeads's Kernal on Bud 9 was hardy for me (zone 3 with good summer heat,
it made it to about -40) until this year. It was loaded with fruit and a
strong windstorm broke it off at the union. Since it was up against a stout
fence I never quite got around to staking it :-( The next weekend I staked
neglected trees with 1" galvanized electical conduit.
