Title: Re: [NAFEX] Grape suckers?
Can't say, though I'm sure several cultures have done it.  This is something I've tried out on my own.  It's one of a number of things I'm preparing for a new book, on using grapes (ALL parts of the grape vine) as a companion to The Grape Grower.

Lon,
I associate eating grape leaves with Greek food.  Is the eating of green shoots of grapes associated strongly with any culture?  I have never heard of doing this.

If you have a mist bench you can cut them up into green cuttings and root those.  If the vine doesn't have fuzzy or hairy shoots (such as Concord does), smooth stemmed green shoots can be steamed and eaten, though you might want to sweeten them a bit - they tend to be acid.

Hello All,

Every year I get a couple of grape suckers coming up from the base of my
vines.  Can these be rooted?

Hate to just toss things away.  Especially when you can sell them!

Later,
Tom
