There about 12 cultivars available from "one green
world". my experience with "blue bell" was that it
was a tad bitter and mealy, but it was in a lousy site
(poor air drainage and little sun) and I lost the
plant the next year. I would sure like to try one of
the newer cultivars.

Thanks so much to everyone who offered advice about cold weather =
peaches. The info was VERY helpful. I've decided to go with five =
varieties: Double Jewel, Burbank July Elberta, Caroline Belle, Early =
White Giant and China Pearl (the last four of which are offered by Stark =
Bros). I'll let you know in a year or two how they survive the Maine =
winters.

Fluff: I was so tempted to add Veteran, Hale and Compact Redhaven on =
your recommendation, but I'm almost out of space. They're next on my =
list.

John

> Veteran is a very sweet, yellow fleshed old time favorite freezing and =
canning peach. The slips easily when put in boiling water, but =
uniquely it peels clean and easily without scalding. It easily comes =
free of the pit. I like very sweet peaches, and Veteran is very sweet. =
It is a late peach. It sucks as a shipper as it is very soft when =
ripe.
