Agree : Weed-free mulch ! But it sure did seem to encourage the growth nettles-- they invaded pond weed mulched soil faster than anything else I've seen. And a few years later I still see improved growth on Giant Foxtail-- beautiful dark green & healthy.

Oddly enough, my son just used a layer of duckweed as mulch in the garden.
He did it as an experiment, but it seems to be working well. If nothing
else, it's a mulch with no weed seeds. He put down a couple of inches of
it.
