Thanks, Ed. Yes, the currant leaves with red lesions had aphids. I thought I'd seen that before. I think they usually lose the red color later in the season, but remain bumpy. And also - the Jonkeers Van Tet, which I bought on your recommendation, as a good red currant that was less susceptible to aphids, shows no signs of aphid damage at all, so far. So thanks for the advise. I'll let you know how I like the fruit (next year?)
