Luscious Early Fall. SD E31 x Ewart. SD State U, 1967. Luscious is one
of the most productive varieties we know of here in Maine. It is
extremely hardy and very good tasting. For us it ripens in
late September-October. The fruit is small, although not nearly as
small as
Seckel. It bears so heavily that itÂ’s apt to break branches. The soft,
fine extra-juicy off-white flesh is sweet and flavorful with almost no
grit cells. Thin yellowish skin is covered with small tan dots. For a
northern orchard, I think it's quite a good pear. We've
been offering it in the Fedco catalog for quite a few years.
