Robert,
I have a dozen Yorks and they are quite useless here also. However, I
have 50 or so native (S. coerulea) and the flavor is really great. The
secret is to live in a climate where the berries will be frosted pretty
hard as they ripen.

To all who are dissing the mighty elderberry let me ask this: Ever taste
a Cabernet wine grape? Also, how many years does a Bordeaux age before
it becomes drinkable? I have blue and red elderberry wine in my cellar
that is 9 years old and still improving.

From: "Robert H." <lostman>

I got 4 elderberries plants about 2 years ago from Henry Fields.
This year I got my first big crop. The problem is none of the berries
have any flavor. Not sweet or sour - just very bland. Am I doing
something
wrong?
