I need to repeat some things - ALL my chestnuts are seedlings - no grafted
trees. There are seedlings of Chinese, European, American, and
(presumeably) Japanese heritage, in various combinations. The sterile tree
is a SEEDLING of Colossal, not the variety itself. And as I say, the tree
in question is very shy about producing anything - it has about 5% or less
of the number of catkins that the productive trees have.
