KATERU: A VERY LATE RIPENING WILD PEACH

Kateru is a wild growing peach found in some areas of the North Western mountainous Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.  This peach has a very unique character.  It ripens very late in October compared to June-July which is the ripening season for commercial peaches like Elberta, July Elberta  or J.H. Hale in the same area.

The fruits of this peach are not juice like normal peaches.  They are also not attractive.  Though the pulp is slightly bitter, but still the fruits are edible.

Kateru is used as a rootstock for peach on a limited scale.

I am of the view that KATERU can be used in peach breeding programmes for evolving some late ripening peach.

I am interested that some institution/organization should undertake this work.  I am ready to collaborate.  So please contact me for more information, bud sticks or pollen of this fruit.
