We regularly have big cats in the area (bobcats too). The concession we make to living rural is that we do NOT leave our dogs outside while we are not home- and we keep an eye on them when we are home. Easy dinner as both are older. We haven't had cougar bother livestock in the area- most likely because the wild burros are easier prey. We have a bobcat that lives nearby. He runs through the pasture regularly - ignoring everything. :-) He's much too small to do serious damage to the horses- and we watch the dogs when he's likely to be around (dawn and dusk).

Coyotes are abundant here but have never been a real problem. Our current cat lives inside as we've fed too many coyotes stupid fat cats to let him out! Not their fault- food is food.

Chris
