Jay -
I found I couldn't get carrots to reliably germinate here in the mid-Atlantic without using burlap that I tried to keep at least moist at all times until germination. On at least one occassion, though, I left it on too long and effectively cleared my bed of lettuce seedlings when I removed it.

I don't know about carrots and this method, but this is the method I use to get carrots started. It works really well. I will be starting another round of carrots in 5-7 days depending on the weather. This is a great use for old row cover. One can also use burlap.

Has anyone tried this method with carrots?

Yes, put a lid on the spinach seed and make sure to refrigerate it after an approximate counter sitting time of "overnight." 12 hours more or less...you don't want them to start getting rotten or moldy, etc....(I did that once). I'm sure you could just put them in the frig right away too. Might take a little longer to sprout. Hattie
