I don't know if this will help because all my Strawberries are in pots.  I plant a box of 1000 plants a day. I lay out all the pots, fill all the pots half full and add fertilizer pellets, place 60 plants, fill those 10 pots, then hand set each plant to the proper depth, and repeat until all the plants are planted. I then move them away from the potting area, and finally water them in.  I hire high school kids to stack the pots in their final location on Saturdays.  For every adult helper I can plant another 500 plants a day. I plant 12,000 plants every spring that way.

I've got 1600 strawberry plants arriving next month, and at a minute a piece, they would take 27 hours of solid labor to get in the ground. Any tips for radically cutting down the amount of time to plant a plant? I have a BCS and hand tools available. Has anyone used a wedge bar to make a slit in the soil? (I'm thinking this might be useful, as the roots are supposed to go straight down.) Any ideas welcome.
