Thank you Steve. Great post.
For me the big picture of this issue is so much more important than the specific technical analysis or anyone's interpretation of it.

There's a couple different angles to this GMO discussion regarding Don
Huber's findings.

The more substantive and peer-review material is a body of work based
on his plant pathology career at Purdue University. This category of
Huber's findings includes peer-reviewed journal articles and symposium
and conference presentations on glyphosate's action as a strong chelator
and thus binder of soil minerals like manganese, glyphosate's effects on
plant disease, glyphosate's effects on the nutritional balance of livestock
feeds and animal health, etc.

These findings of Don Huber are supported by collaborative work by
Robert Kremer with USDA-ARS, French scientists, etc

These findings alone are sufficient to give pause by anyone working
in agriculture. The implications are enormous when you consider
the impacts across whole watersheds, states, and nations on
ecological systems and livestock and human health.

For example,

The second angle is the specific claim in Huber's Letter to USDA
in advance of release of RR-Alfalfa regarding a microscopic pathogenic
organism.

This link on the FARFA web page is a follow-up letter from
Huber to the European Commission. He explains why he
sent the letter to Sec. Vilsack, plus it contains attachments
including the original letter to USDA, references, and a
statement from university entomologists to EPA which
states that "research" on GMO seeds are prohibited
by the technology agreements that farmers have to
sign to buy seeds these days.

The focus of Huber's letter to USDA has been on the
specific microorganism and any scientific findings to
verify it's existence and pathogenic nature.

It is my understanding Huber is retired but travels and lectures
widely. While time-consuming research is no longer his
focus, he's trying to get funding to have this work
conducted by various labs.

However, if you read Huber's letter to the EU, there
are plenty of known deleterious effects -- separate from
the specific microorganism -- from widespread
glyphosate application to put the brakes on new RR-GMO
releases until more open and full-scale research can be
conducted. "If" such research could even get funded or
heard in the light of day juxtaposed with
Monsanto-pimped laws and coerced-regulations.
