Next year I'll start using some hand-move irrigation and would like to go towards solid-set for two small fields on the home farm. I'm wondering if there are any significant benefits or problems with galvanized steel or Aluminum pipe. Anyone use both? What are the plusses and minuses of each. I picked up some about 700' of 2" Al pipe earlier this week at an auction at a real good price and have been offered some galvanized steel at an OK price.

My concern with the Al is that it is pretty delicate and I can see my crew trashing it in short order if they aren't real careful around it. However, it will be easy to move because it is so light and it won't rust. The steel would be sturdier, but also more work to move.

What is a fair price for the steel pipe. The ask is $0.50/ft for 1,000 ft of 3" pipe including about a dozen risers with rainbirds and several 90's

Which type of pipe has worked best for you?

Andy
