Love these posts about the August produce slump. We've had a long hot
summer & I do feel like I should change the name of our stand to
"Everything Solanaceous."

Are any of you hot weather types growing ground cherry/ husk cherry?
I put in a flat of them and am getting 20+ quarts a week. They are
flying off the table at the markets once folks get a taste. And they
are fine in the heat. We just need to get someone to feature them on
Food Network. They're great in an upscale salad, and repeat customers
tell me they just eat them raw all week.

Another grower at my market is selling clamshells of "garden
huckleberry" with a pie recipe included. Great marketing on his part.
I tried it once and found that garden huckleberry/ sunberry /
wonderberry had a metallic aftertaste that no recipe could obliterate,
but maybe it's worth another go some year..
