Bill Sorry for the mix up in topic title... I meant to reply about the water line and have changed the subject line to reflect this. You cannot control the water, unless its source is on your property and even then you cannot control what animals are in it. The writing is on the wall though food safety does NOT include open streams for produce. It may be fine for forage crops, fruit trees, and nuts, but not produce. Even wells that run off springs might be an issue unless you treat. Food Safety and GAP are going to ruin farming, especially (small and mid size farms that ride the fence between wholesale and market sales) in this nation unless they current path its taking is redirected. If the farm has a reliable water source currently and they want to bring it through a stream bed, its far better to run the line under the bed and not take water from the stream.
