Most of the feed stores here sell Austrian Winter Peas for plantings to attract deer called "deer plots". Seed is cheap, $1 for a pound. It's what I've been growing.

I worried about feeding deer food to people, but my research showed they are just hardy subspecies of garden pea.

You know, I have to say, the Gonzo peas didn't do it for me. They were stringy kinda for me last year. I grew several kinds and they were the worst and hard to cut, etc. Could just have been the way they grew or something...I don't know.

But the best for pea tendrils for me is simply planting an organic Austrian Winter Pea in the fall and then harvesting those leaves and tendrils now. Wow, they are terrific. And when they flower, the flowers are beautiful and great to eat too.
