I have Davis' Vantage Pro weather station.  I'm generally very happy with it.

Shortly after I bought it (about ten years ago) Davis upgraded to Vantage Pro 2 which isn't compatible with VP1.  The difference is, I believe, the upgraded version uses a different wireless system and the new weather station can be farther away from the download console than the earlier version can.

The negatives -- I use a Mac and Davis' software only thinks of Mac's as an after thought.

The Apple version of the Davis software does not store some of the information such as UV, solar radiation and soil moisture and soil temperature even if your weather station has the gauges to report this information.

Additionally, Davis' weather stations can only connect to weatherunderground if you are using a PC.  The Mac version of the Davis software, unlike Maury and his Oregon Scientific will not connect.

So,  VP is a really decent weather station  (I now have ten years of weather information stored on my computer), besides being a solid weather station the VP probably has more whistles and bells than any other station on the market today. And if you have a PC you can store all of that information as well as share it with others through the wunderground.  The one drawback is for us Mac users.  The mac version of the davis software is definitely second rate.

Barb,

Try ambientweather.com.  They have every type of weather station made.  From just thermometers to full weather stations connected to the internet in real time.  I have Oregon Scientific with solar relays to the computer and a full internet connection for all info to the weather underground  (wunderground).  With Weather Exchange (free software, no purchase necessary), you can see all your neighbors weather stations in real time  (the whole country as a matter of fact if you put different zip codes in).  Weather underground will also store your data automatically on their site.  Love my unit.

For you folks using weather stations, what type do you use and like?  I'm looking for an economical wireless weather station, but have no idea what types are best.  Thanks.
